Elijah's Surgery

Ever since Elijah was born, his middle finger on his left hand would not straighten.  We took him to Scottish Rite Hospital every 6 months to check it out, stretch it, etc.  Finally in April, the awesome doctors at Scottish Rite operated on his little finger!  Here he is walking into the hospital with his "baby doggie."
They gave him as many stickers as he wanted.
Cary and I gave him a new little Thomas the Train book and stuffed toy- he had been asking for it at the store for months.
Here he is in his hospital gown watching Toy Story from our laptop.  We had to keep him busy for about 2 hours while we waited for his turn.  We also could not let him eat anything at all that morning because of the medication he would get.  I was so nervous about that part, but he was perfectly happy and easy!  Never even asked for a snack!  He was such a champ throughout the surgery and afterward. He did not want to wear this hospital gown though, and asked if he could wear some "different jammas."
Here we are after Elijah took his "silly juice."  It definitely made him silly...he wanted to put his doggie on his head.  He was very relaxed!
Here he is (with his Thomas the Train) just a few minutes after we arrived home that day.  His cast was so big!  At first he wanted to take it off.  ("Take off it.")  But then for 3 weeks he really didn't complain about it.  It didn't take us long do find out why it was so big.  This cast did not slow him down a bit!
Like I said, the cast did not slow him down!

Our sweet friend Jenni gave him this huge Buzz balloon!  This could not have been a better surprise!  So sweet!  However, Buzz did not last long at our house, as he became a punching bag after just a few minutes.
Here he is getting the cast taken off.
He was a little freaked out about the incision at first, but of course it just got better and better.  He started to use that hand more and more as time went on.

His finger is straight!  Praise God!  And thank God for all the sweet people at Scottish Rite!
